Transcon's experience and accomplishments in the design and building of complete scrap handling systems with all the apurtenances and accessory equipment, supporting structures and refinements, is pre-eminent in the conveyor industry.

Within the past few years, Transcon has designed, fabricated and installed the two largest scrap handling conveyor systems that have been erected up to this time.

Transcon's new "Form-Weld Hinge" Steel Belt is an outstanding development in interlocking hinge type steel belting - much stronger, longer life, close fitting, resistant to bending and distortion, much less maintenance - that is a superior contribution to the success of a scrap handling system.

Handling scrap may involve only a short length single conveyor unit, or the needs of the plant may require an extensive conveyor system comprised of a series of a conveyors to collect the material from various sources and deliver it outside the building into railroad cars or trucks.

Transcon can design and supply the single units or the comprehensive system, with all the auxiliary equipment, and up to date refinements in design. Transcon supplies the supporting structures, elevated service platforms, combination storage hoppers and power operated discharge gates and chutes, power operated swivelling discharge chutes, multiple car loading systems, baler house systems, elevated conveyor structures, and automatic handling arrangements.

The above picture shows a Transcon Scrap Conveyor systme in operation at the Burns Harbor Plant of Bethlehem Steel Corp., featuring a shuttle conveyor arrangement with remotive controls for loading any of four gondola cars - permitting switching of cars to avoid shutting down the line. The system carries chopped side trimmer scrap from the pickle lines inside the building and elevates it outisde the building to discharge on the shuttle conveyor.

Scrap Handling System at Ohio Steel Plant - The Transcon Scrap Handling sytem illustrated above, is in operation at a large Ohio Steel Plant. The scrap - chopped Side Trimmer Scrap from a strip line - is brought across the mill floor inside the building to an elevating conveyor on the outisde which discharges via a swivel chute into either of two trucks. The swivel is power driven and remote controlled. An additional feature is an air operated gate on the end of the chute, which closes and provides temporary storage while the chute is shifted from one truck to another. The conveyor is completely housed for weather protection, and the elevated drive section is provided with service platform and access ladder.
